While explaining the intricacies, benefits and science of the FAMI process, the clinic will ask the candidate to submit a series of photographs by mail to help complete a facial analysis. These photos will include both current photographs of the candidate’s face and those taken in their early to mid-20s. The comparison of these photos will allow Dr. Amar and his team to track the effects of aging on a particular candidate and determine exactly what treatment they will need.
These treatments include sectional approaches, including those applied only to the upper or lower parts of the facial structure, or a strategy that encompasses the entire face. Coupled with the unique cosmetic needs of a candidate, these photos will help Dr. Amar and his team formulates a surgical and treatment strategy unique to that particular patient.
Once a strategy has been determined, a candidate will be asked to submit a series of medical tests, including a pre-determined blood analysis and an EKG to ensure that a candidate’s heart is up to the stress involved in surgery.
After these tests have been completed and accepted, a candidate will meet with Dr. Amar and his team in person to decide on a time frame for the broader process.
This schedule can be influenced by a number of factors, including a candidate’s current physical or mental well being, Dr. Amar’s availability and when these patients have the time to dedicate their energies to the healing process. While some candidates will be immediately ready and qualified to proceed, it is not uncommon for Dr. Amar to suggest a longer period of preparation, according to the needs of the individual patient.
Throughout this period of analysis and consultation, Dr. Amar and his team are always available to answer any questions or allay any doubts a patient may have, ensuring that the entire process, including risks and rewards, are completely understood.
Meanwhile, it will be up to the patient to prepare their mind and body for the procedure. Physically, this means taking better care of their body, through exercise and diet.
While there is no set dietary plan for FAMI patients, and overwhelming changes to one’s diet can potentially cause more harm than good, it is advised that patients increase the number of vegetables and fruits and avoid fatty, high cholesterol foods. Fig.49.
While preparing for the big day, it is also advised that candidates increase the amount of exercise in their daily schedules, though no drastic changes should be made without a doctor’s advice.
Additionally, Dr. Amar advises that patients work towards bettering their mental health through yoga, massages, Pilates and assorted breathing exercises. Suggested exercises include deep, slow respiration, using the lower stomach to breathe, thereby massaging the solar plexus. Fig.50.
These exercises will help patients learn how to control their breathing and calm their emotions during periods of extreme stress, thereby reducing the chance that they will suffer from somatization. For specific suggestions on how best to relax in the days and weeks leading up to a FAMI procedure, consult with your personal physician or Dr. Amar and his team, who are always on hand to answer your questions. Finally a patient must work towards curbing habits that may prove to be harmful to their
physical and mental health. These include the reduction of smoking, drinking and/or the use of non-prescription drugs. Further, in the final weeks before the actual surgery, a patient must abstain from taking prescription drugs, Aspirin, or any medications that contain cortisone. If a patient feels that they can or may not be able to halt the use of a particular drug or have been advised by their own physician, they should advise Dr. Amar and his team. Fig.51.
Once these efforts are in place and a date for the procedure is set, a patient should make travel and living arrangements for the time they will spend in Marbella, Spain. These accommodations should include a quiet and comfortable place to rest before and after the procedure is complete. They should also allow for a period of uninterrupted rest and relaxation in the days immediately following the procedure.
A peaceful environment, free of stress and any need to directly interact with others, especially in cases that require long conversations, will decrease physical side-effects and trauma, shorten the healing process and increase the chances of flawless results. It is suggested that a patient make arrangements with a friend or family member to accompany them to their home or hotel following the procedure, but if one cannot be arranged, Dr. Amar’s clinic will facilitate a guardian.
Once again, if a patient has any questions or concerns about making these arrangements, they should direct their queries to Dr. Amar’s well-equipped and informed team of professionals, who will make every effort to help arrange the appropriate accommodations on their behalf. These steps, if followed correctly, will help patients arrive on the day of surgery prepared and confident for the challenges that lay ahead.
