FAMI Are you ready for the future

Once a prospective patient has confidently addressed the question of whether FAMI is the right procedure for them, they must then ask themselves whether they are the right kind of patient for FAMI.

This self-analysis is incredibly important in ensuring the long and short-term success of the procedure and involves issues of a patient’s physical and mental well being.

As Dr. Amar and his team will explain in detail, the first issues to address involve a patient’s medical history and current health. A successful FAMI patient is one has led, or is currently striving to lead, a healthy life. This is reflected in a candidate’s choice of diet and moderation when it comes to alcohol and tobacco. Even if a prospective patient has practiced unhealthy habits in the past, it is imperative that they moderate such activities before, during and long after beginning the FAMI process.

The patient is taught by Dr. Roger Amar that the adult stem cells are intelligent cells and the gene pool can auto-repair up to three months before FAMI, procedure, so it’s never too late to give up the bad habits and increase the chance for a normal, successful take of the fat graft.

Further, an ideal patient is one who has worked to remain physically healthy through activity and exercise. As a patient’s body will act as both the provider and recipient of the adult stem cells, it is important that each system involved in the extraction and acceptance of the cells are as healthy as possible. The success of a FAMI procedure depends on both the health of the cells extracted from fat, as well as the systems necessary for fully accepting the purified samples.

According to scientific studies, overweight and obese individuals face more challenges when it comes to healing after a surgical experience due to their "poor defences and high risk of infection with resistant microbes." Their condition produces post-surgical challenges similar to diabetics. In over-weight and obese patients, all pre-adipocytes or progenitor stem cells are already converted in mature adipocytes, full of large quantities of triglycerides and cannot be mobilized for defence and repair.

Conversely, those individuals with weights deemed appropriate for their height, face less challenges and prove to encounter fewer side-effects and cases of post-surgical trauma.

Without the assurance that all systems involved are as healthy as necessary, Dr. Amar tends to find it difficult to accept candidates as it hinders his ability to guarantee successful results.

Unlike traditional methods of fat injection, FAMI requires a healthy acceptance of the injected cells by often deep muscle tissue to ensure success; a process that may take more time, but will result in natural results that will last virtually a lifetime.

This insistence on a patient’s health extends to their medical history, which will be researched and analyzed in detail by Dr. Amar’s team before even the first consultation. This process will involve extensive blood and tissue tests, as well as an EKG, to make sure a candidate’s system is both free of toxins and well equipped to fully accept the cellular grafts. While few medical conditions will act as absolute dis-qualifiers for the FAMI procedure, some may negatively affect Dr. Amar’s final decision to take on a prospective patient.
Consideration is also given to a candidate’s use of particular drugs, including both prescription and over-the-counter medicines.

Regardless of past use, it is advised that patients stop using all drugs at least two weeks before a procedure, especially Aspirin and those including Cortisone, unless otherwise advised.

While these deep and thorough medical histories may seem at first intrusive, the are of the utmost importance for Dr. Amar and his team, allowing them to fully understand the risks and limitations of a candidate before beginning a working relationship.

While a perspective patient’s medical history and current physical health play an enormous role in the final decision of Dr. Amar and his team, their mental and emotional status play an equally or sometime a more important role.

In the eyes of Dr. Amar, a patient’s mental state is important for a number of reasons. First, a successful patient must not only feel confident in the effectiveness of FAMI, but also fully comprehend the investment of time and effort necessary to guarantee success. This comprehension increases a patient’s level of comfort, overall confidence and ability to handle the physical transition they are about to encounter. Fig 46

In a broader sense, a patient’s emotional health, both immediate and long-term, will help determine how successful their procedure will be. To fully understand a candidate’s emotional state, Dr. Amar in many cases, will ask for a thorough history of one’s mental health, as well as that of their family’s. Fig 47.

Again, while this may at first sound intrusive, the process is pivotal in determining whether a patient has the emotional strength to undergo such potentially trans-formative process. Most importantly, however, this review and analysis is important in Dr. Amar’s ability to predict a patient’s physical acceptance of adult stem cells and their ability to heal with minimal trauma and complications.
A firm believer of the power of somatization or the physical manifestation of psychological or emotional stress, Dr. Amar has always insisted that patients preparing for FAMI be of sound mind, as well as body. This requirement ensures that a patient has the ability to dedicate all of their energy towards the healing process, encouraging a quick and efficient recovery period and greatly minimizing the risk of future health risks.

While the adult stem cells used in the FAMI procedure are incredibly intelligent and durable cells, like all parts of the body, they are susceptible to any physical or emotional stress inflicted on one’s body, hindering their ability to successfully take to their new host muscle.

This belief does not necessarily exclude any potential patient who has undergone emotional strain in their lives, but it does take into account how they were able to mentally and physically deal with stress and conflictual situations.

According to the Hippocratic-Galien tradition, illness often results from an internal imbalance within the body's physical system. Today, we have to include those of a mental or emotional nature. Struggles emerging from opposing or incompatible emotional needs or wishes left unfulfilled can generate an unbearable state of mind, which instinctively could result in somatization. This physical manifestation of a patient's mental state can greatly affect success rates and the overall healing process. These experiences can leave a lasting imprint on the very adult stem cells needed for a successful FAMI procedure.

However, Dr. Amar is quick to point out that the mere existence of such a history does not disqualify a prospective patient as one would be hard-pressed to find a candidate with a history free from stress and pressure. Instead, the doctor and his team insist that there is no adult stem cell beyond repair if a prompt and comprehensive review process is properly completed.

This review process includes an analysis of a candidate’s history and questions about their family’s history of depression or mental ailments. Therefore, it is advised that candidates not seek out FAMI in the midst of a particularly challenging time in their lives. Rather, they should work alongside Dr. Amar and his team to see if their particular obstacle might be overcome before proceeding.

Based on Dr. Amar's case history, a large proportion of healthy patients have successfully overcome their particular issues before their introduction to FAMI.
